Report on the visit of the hospital delegation from the North Hospital of Marseille to Gabès
At the initiative of the Foundation, a delegation from the North University Hospital of Marseille visited the hospital in Gabès, from November 28 to 30, 2022, under excellent conditions, which resulted, during the summary meeting, in recommendations that will be discussed and developed during a forthcoming videoconference between the two partners in the coming days.
The following points summarize these recommendations and will constitute the major axes for the beginning of this cooperation :
There is a common will to extend this exploratory mission over two or three years. The French Ministry of Health has already doubled the funds allocated to this mission. This partnership will focus on projects that the hospital in Gabès will have to target and that will be taken on by project leaders.
Throughout this collaboration, a training and internship program could be established.
The common will to work on environmental health is given the similarities between Gabès and Marseille in this respect: both cities suffer from obvious environmental degradation. Sharing experiences on the treatment of pathologies linked to the effects of different forms of pollution in both Gabès and Marseille with multidisciplinary skills specialized in the two hospitals will be the cornerstone of this cooperation.
Developing the profession of health mediator in Gabès: the hospital in Marseille can help by sharing its experience in this field.
Setting up a register: for example, the register of genital malformations, cancers, respiratory diseases (or other types of pathologies). The Marseille hospital can call on a specialist who would explain the methodology for setting up this register. A master's degree in the keeping of registers could be prepared.
One of the themes that could be the subject of a specific joint study is the very high rate of diabetes observed in the Gabesian population, at least among patients who consult the various hospital departments.
On a practical level, it was decided to schedule a videoconference between the two hospitals to answer these questions and to schedule the projects on which cooperation will begin while identifying the project leaders.
